Tip Project
Following the end of my exams (I had 2 exams and failed them both holy crap I passed both!), I decided to start a little experiment.
My experiment will all be based on human reactions. How humans react, how money influces them and, most important, is every human an egoist piece of shit, ready to do everything for money?
What I’m doing to do, mostly, is play with people’s mind and attitude, in a very simple way.
For one month, I am going to go to restaurants, casinos and more, without ever tipping. Once.
Why? Because I want to see what happens. There is no “law” saying you should tip at restaurants. I want to see how people will react to someone who doesn’t react the “unwritten rule”.
I’ll never tip. No matter what happens. Just to see what happens. So far, I plan to go to (and already went to part of):
1-One (1) super-expensive restaurant, Helene de Champlain (100-150$ per meal). This will be my most interesting experience I believe because you’re expected to pay 30% there PLUS I won’t pay the Maitre D’, valet, etc.
2-Three (3) Expensive restaurants in MontrĂ©al; Baton Rouge, two others I haven’t chose. 30-40$ per meal
3-Five (5) regular restaurant, 10-20$ per meal.
4-A dozen (12) of fast-food/lowly restaurant, 5-10$ per meal.
5-Casino, once.
6-Hotels, three (3) times.
7-Taxi, three (3) times.
8-Expensive clubs, two (2) times. No tips to barman or doorman at ANY time.
9-Bar, five (5) times. No tips ever. Why am I doing this? Very simple: to see what happens, really. How will people react? Will I get banned? Expelled? Harassed? Beaten? Killed? Buried? Revived? Rekilled? No idea.
See, I disagree with the idea behind tipping. I think it’s unfair some jobs have tips and others don’t. You might claim they are paid less, but that’s also part of the “trick”; yet another way to make you, the customer, pay. To make you feel bad and scam yet another dollar from you.
Yes, they win less, but if tips didn’t exist, less people would like to become waiters, so the wages would go up. Same goes with barmans, really: they earn amazing sums of cash. A friend of mine made THOUSANDS per week working on hot nights. Under the table, never paying any taxes.
So, that’s my plan. My project. A kind of “super-cheap me”. The numbers above weren’t chosen randomly: they are what the average person do in a year. An average person will go to each of the places named above (expensive restaurants, casinos, etc) the number of times I will go in a month. So in one month, I’ll eat/visit in these places as much as any regular person in a year.
The second objective of this experiment, after checking how people will react and noting how pissed people can get over a 5$ tip, will be to see how much I can save. I’ll put 15% of every meal I eat and 30% of every alcoholic beverage I take in a pot and see how much this makes at the end of a month, i.e. what the average person spends in a year in tips.
So, that’s it: I already started and will post my first story soon. I’ll keep this thread clear however because this is a serious subjects. Tipping is stealing, that’s my opinion. Fuck them.
Just a few remember of the rules:
1-I can’t tip. Ever. Not even one cent.
2-I’ll always pay in cash and carry lots of change on me so I don’t get caught being FORCED to pay.
3-If I am expelled, I’ll leave calmly. If it gets dangerous, I’ll immediately, without paying if needed.
4-I CAN UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE TIP DURING THIS WHOLE MONTH (i.e. until June 15th) NO MATTER WHO I AM WITH OR WHAT I AM DOING.
5-I’ll keep this page (www.fullyfrank.com/tipproject.html) updated. The idea is to visit a lot of places and see how people react. As of writing this, I already at a regular restaurant. Stories below!
Please notice this is done in addition to my regular projects; updates will be posted independately of my regular stories.
