  • People are dumb

I was wathing the television tonight (bad idea) when a particularly dumb news hit me. It described an autograph event and Canadiens’ player — who typically remain with the team two years in average– were autographing photos and T-shirt for people. So far, so good.

Except that people had to pay.

Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with people? There was a guy who paid 40$ to get a stupid photo signed by a player. Way to go, dumbass, there are some people trying to find a way to keep their homes, other trying to save their jobs and you waste 40$ on some stupid worthless photos. Seriously, who cares? Who cares if your friend has a photo signed by some dumb overpaid player, especially when he paid to get it? What’s the point? If I ever write a sucessful (big “if”) I’m never going to charge to sign it for people. There’s no point. Signing something is supposed to be something personnal, NOT commercial. Way to make money off everything.

The owner then went into great explanations on how he paid each player a fixed amount and how he lost money 9 years out of 10. Really? If the person lost money, he would find a way to profit or stop doing it altogether. Would you invest $5,000 year after year if you KNOW you are going to lose money? Thought so. I hate fucking liars like him trying to get pity when they charge 40$ for a fucking signature. How long does it takes to sign a shirt anyway. Five, perhaps 10 seconds? We have the most lucrative job in the universe.

Don’t bring me the “it will take value with time” argument. It won’t. First, because there is no certificate of authenticity and because anyone, with a bit of training, can copy the signature almost perfectly. Second, because it’s a fucking photo/shirt and because it’s worthless. It’s not  the “Shirt I was wearing for my 500th goal” or the “jackstrap that stopped the puck and saved a goal with 0:01 left in the third period of the seventh game of the Stanley Cup final while we were leading 4-3″. It’s just a stupid photo and in two years it will be 1-gone 2-lost somewhere in your house full of overpriced shit.

Anyone who paid 40$ to get a stupid signature is dumb. It’s a waste of money and I could name hundreds of better use for it. Those people are typically the same that lost their wives/husband over not caring for them for years and spending tons of shit… on shit. Why don’t you invite your girlfriend/boyfriend to a dinner or something? Why not spend it on something that at least matter?

Then, there was a guy with a T-Shirt signed by at least 20 players. He then told the reporter he had it signed by every player of the team and the coach. “How much did it cost you,” asked the journalist. “700$,”he answered. “Isn’t it a bit expensive,” asked the reporter again. “Well, I got signatures from the whole team now, it’s been quite a dream for a some time now. It’s quite cheap if you consider it’s the cost of a pair of tickets.”

Way to justify yourself, moron. Your dream? I dream of writing a book, not having to work in a stupid cubicle and find my soulmate. You dream of owning a T-shirt with 10 cents of ink on it. But perhaps you already did everything I’ve mentionned, huh? Some people’s existence is just pointless.
